Taoyuan Station is livelier at 1 a.m. than you'd guess. Long after the platforms go quiet, the burners under the front-station arcades stay lit — this is the densest late-night food circuit in the city, from coin-priced snacks to izakayas to KTV, all on foot. Here's the route.
The arcades: coin-priced supper headquarters
Walk out the front exit toward Zhongzheng Road and the smell gets there first. The arcade stalls — salt-and-pepper chicken, braised snacks, grilled corn, congee — run past midnight at pocket-change prices. Loop toward Zhongshan Road and the stir-fry joints take over: cold beer, hot woks, the most direct cure for overtime. No fancy signage here; follow whichever queue is longest.
A proper seat: the station-lane izakayas
When standing and eating won't cut it, the izakayas in the station lanes take over. Ba Ban hides in a lane off Zhongzheng Road, old-school skewers and draft beer; San Shi sits on Zhongshan Road a few minutes out, thick with after-work regulars; Toriku on Taoyi Street is the longtime local pick. Kitchens close orders around ten — go early for the full grill list. More options on the Taoyuan bar guide; for the bistro strip in the Yiwen district, read the Yiwen bar crawl guide.
Full but not done: the second half
The station district's real advantage is what comes after supper. For singing, Cashbox KTV (Zhonghua branch) and Kai Yue KTV on Datong Road are walkable institutions with rooms running into the small hours; for live music over singing, Monster Music Pub on Datong Road and Queens Music Bar on Zhongshan Road carry the night. Full listings on the Taoyuan KTV guide.
The route, in order
Before eleven: arcade snacks or stir-fry to line the stomach. Eleven to one: izakaya skewers and a drink. After one: KTV or a music bar to close. The whole loop is walkable — no scooter, no parking hunt. The wider district lives on the Taoyuan guide.
Getting home
Taking the TRA back, note the last train around midnight. Miss it and taxis are easy to flag at the station front. One rule with no exceptions: if you've been drinking, hand over the keys — taxi or designated driver, every time.
